Trattoria La Cantina
About This Spot
Stepping into Trattoria La Cantina on Via Enrico de Nicola feels like slipping into a familiar, warmly lit corner of Cassino, where the bustle slows just a bit and the hum of happy conversation fills the room. It’s a comfortable, unpretentious spot where the rhythm is casual but purposeful — tables turn steadily, plates come and go, and there’s a steady flow of locals who know this is where traditional Italian cooking meets an everyday kind of joy.
The atmosphere leans into that reassuring blend of simplicity and care. It’s not polished or flashy, but instead grounded in authenticity: wooden chairs, checked tablecloths, the occasional clatter from the nearby kitchen. You sense the familiar nods to neighbors, the quick smiles from staff who seem more like friends, and the relaxed pace that invites you to settle in without feeling rushed.
What makes dining here special isn’t just the food itself, but how it arrives at your table — hearty, thoughtfully prepared, and true to its roots. The menu invites exploration, from rich, comforting classics like carbonara and cotoletta alla milanese to homemade frites that balance crispness and warmth. Dishes arrive layered with generosity and familiar flavors, reminding you that Italian cuisine resonates strongest when it’s shared around a lively table.
There’s a quiet pleasure in watching the space fill with folks who’ve clearly found their go-to spot, their familiarity reflecting in easy conversation and contented smiles. The value here is tangible, stretching beyond the plates to the warmth of the experience itself — a genuine place where quality meets modesty, and every visit feels like a welcome return.

This great cantina was recommended by our hotel, and is obviously popular with the locals. The food was delicious, came really quickly and a litre of wine is only €6. Don’t miss it

We have been in Rome, Capri, Naples, and Cassino. The meal and service here was by far the best! The food was outstanding. From the carbonara area, to the vodka pasta, to the scappolini… to the good and affordable wine… everything was outstanding. This has to be the best place to eat in Cassino and perhaps all of the region. We will plan on coming back here again! Thank you!
